Stevens and Smith Historic Site
- Lancaster, PA

CH&E Construction has been hired for Construction Services for Phase I of a planned $20 million educational and interpretive complex, using the restored 19th century properties of Thaddeus Stevens and Lydia Hamilton Smith located in Historic Downtown Lancaster, PA – featuring an original cistern believed by historians and archaeologists to have been used by Stevens and Smith as a hiding place for escaping slaves along the Underground Railroad. The project will honor the legacy of these extraordinary Americans and inspire people today to carry on the work these patriots began.

Phase I of the project includes replacement/repair of the existing brick facades on the Stevens, Kleiss & Smith homes, along with the Swan Hotel. Complete slate roof, door, window and shutter restoration/replacement will be completed, along with historical facade restoration on all buildings.
