The Cathedral Church of St. Stephen- Addition/Renovation
LEED Certified "Green" Project - Harrisburg, PA
CH&E Construction has completed work on the first
LEED Certified "Green" church in the United States. The project
scope for the 21,592 sf historic complex of five church buildings included
the conversion of a four-story garage to classroom space, the installation
of an aluminum and glass entrance to interconnect the sanctuary to adjacent
buildings, and remodeling of the existing classrooms and offices.
The LEED Certification process was developed by the US Green Building
Council in 2000 as a means to establish benchmarks to identify buildings
which subscribe to sustainable building and design practices. These
principles include energy modelling, indoor air quality and recycling
and storm water management. LEED employs a scoring process, where points
are earned for compliance to sustainable standards.
G.R. Sponaugle was the MEP Contractor, and the Project Architect was
McKissick
Associates of Harrisburg, PA.
