Marc Buckwalter - Master Carpenter

Marc Buckwalter gets his work-out every day on the job as a master carpenter with CH&E. Unlike many people returning home from a hard day’s work, however, Marc runs, bikes, and swims. Yes, he competes in triathlons, and usually about 35 running events in the course of a year. Connie, his wife of 11 years, is also a runner - a very good runner. She is one of the co-founders of the YWCA’s Race Against Racism event held every spring in Lancaster.
Marc joined CH&E in June 1988, fresh out of high school. He always knew he wanted to be involved in some facet of the construction industry. Carpentry was a natural fit for him, and he developed his capabilities as the company has grown.

“One really cool thing about CH&E is the diversity of the projects the company does and that I get to be part of,” Marc says. That includes everything from historic renovations to new commercial facilities. Marc’s job satisfaction is enviable. “I feel very fortunate. I get to work with my hands every day and see what I’m building.”

He credits “old-timers” Jack Heckles (one of CH&E’s founders now enjoying semi-retirement in Montana) and Tom Eisemann (now with Community Action Program of Lancaster) with teaching and encouraging him. “I really owe a lot to them. They always took the time to show me how to do something the right way.”

But, how does he really relax? He admits, with a pang of guilt, that he does watch TV - sometimes. Favorite programs include college basketball and the Sopranos.
